Fern 20-70 cm high, with bushy, scaly rhizome; large leaves pinnate-matches,
the sterile with oblong lobes, the fertile ones in smaller numbers and higher with spaced linear lobes, with saris placed at the sides of the median rib. It grows in damp, shady places rich in humus, siliceous from the plain to the high mountain.
